I think Whisk Kid said it best:

But the most important aspect of this cake [...] is the fact that it’s frosted in white buttercream. Why? Because the smooth white exterior makes the cake look completely normal, but once you slice into it you realize… OH SNAP! THIS CAKE IS CRAZY!

And then it all makes sense.

My birthday is in two weeks, guys. Get your lemon meringue buttercream (swoon!) recipes ready, stat.

    My mom made me a cake like this for my 7th birthday. She never did anything that elaborate again, I think because she was still exhausted from this endeavor.

    Awesome! This is just like my wedding cake. All serious and white on the outside, but when you cut it, it is a Funfetti party on the inside!!

    It wouldn’t be too hard to make this cake I’m thinking. Just add food colouring to vanilla cake. Hmm should I do this for my daughter’s 2nd birthday or for my wedding??

    This was in a magazine called American Girl a while back. They had the recipe too! I made it, of course ^^ For color and flavor, you use drink mix. It usually doesn’t turn out as nice, though : (
