We grew up eating as many of these as we could (sugar kick!!). Can't remember exactly what they were called, but can remember that they didn't have any real taste (other than exceptionally sweet when you stuffed a whole load in your mouth at once :-)). I had forgotten these until I saw the pic on this site... brings back wonderful memories of other sugary goodies from my chilhood. Yep, these are English alright! Ate a ton of them when we were kids. The hard crumbly icing melts almost instantly in the mouth. The cookie bit evens out the candy by being kind of chalky and bland.
