Macaron Love

If I was a ninja, my ninja superpower would totally be posting macaron photos with nobody noticing that it’s only been 12 days since the last time.

    It’s fine! We really don’t mind! :)

They are really pretty. I want to try and make my first macaroons this christmas holiday. I’m thinking green tea matcha ones.

These are so elegant! I love the smooooth tops contrasted with the rough ‘feet’.

  4. Charlotte says:

    Lovely as always!

Is the whole Macaroons/Macrons thing just a language thing or is it a technical difference? ^__^

According to most sources, the cookies above are macarons, and macaroons are a different style of coconut cookie.

I’ve seen the cookies above spelled as “macaroons” also, but I’m not sure if it’s a mistake due to confusion, a becoming-more-accepted spelling (like carmel), or an attempt at a better transliteration of the original French vowel sound (Wikipedia’s entry on the cookie above spells it “macaron” but lists “macaroon” as an Anglicized version).

Uh, in summary I have no idea. I spell it with one O to avoid confusion with the coconut cookie.

Macrons, however, are an entirely different story. :p

If only it were possible to eat pictures on a screen…

  7. Hi epicute, you said you saw places selling macarons in San Francisco, didn’t you? Do you know where? I’m in SF every Wednesday for a class and would like to find some.

  8. Amy says:

Argh. I just don’t get it. Are they supposed to taste yucky? http://www.thehovens.com/?p=378

  9. Wow, these are beautiful! I just may have to order some.

Amy — the ones I’ve eaten tasted delicious. There were some flavours I liked way more than others, but the general consensus was “yum.”

It’s possible that the blogger you linked had a bad batch, but maybe macarons just aren’t her thing. I’ve never found the berry ones to taste artificial at all.

Eve — the SF macarons I tried were in some French bakery close to Haight Street. I can’t recall the name right now but I’ll ask my hostess next time she’s online. The city seemed to be littered with French bakeries though so I’m sure there are tons of locations!

  12. ChocolateCheesecake says:

I think you already have that power. Ninja Sonya!

  13. Thanks! I also noticed, after I posted that link for Paulette’s, that she has a place in San Francisco a little closer in than the Haight Street area. I’ll have to come in early for class some week and take a detour out there.

Never one to complain the artificial coloring in these things is a turn off. Also, why don’t they list their ingredients on the website? It would be nice for food allergy sufferers. I googled and drove by the San Francisco location and the shop did not exist. My cuz had a gift certificate for a weekend at a Beverly Hills hotel and walked by their supposed location there and the shop was not.
