Going Green

mini matcha whoopie pies, originally uploaded by chockylit.

For me, 2008 was all about cupcakes. 2009 was the year of the macaron. And in 2010, I hope to try my very first whoopie pie. If I’m lucky, it’ll even be matcha-flavoured like the ones above. Yum!

Do you have any sweet New Year’s Resolutions?

  1. Now I am loving those cup cakes and the green thing for sure. Green is going to be big this new year.

My sweet New Year’s resolution: bake more from scratch. And also to make my sweets as pretty as something found here!

  3. ChocolateCheesecake says:

I need to seek out and eat a macaron. That is my life’s goal.

  4. Applecore says:

    I second that ChocolateCheesecake

  5. Lerrinus says:

I third that, ChocolateCheesecake! There *has* to be some *somewhere* in Toronto! I will hunt around in every specialty bakeshop if I have to! ;-)

This appears to be a pretty good whoopie pie recipe

And the reviews for this one seem positive, should you want to try and make them at home :)

And, coming from Maine, I can tell you that whoopie pies are AMAZING. My sweet New Years resolution? Eat MORE :P

  7. Nilly says:

Oh wow, whoopie pies are -amazing!- Though I have to admit, they can be pretty hard to make; Mom and me made them from scratch this year for Christmas and they were such a disaster in her eyes that she said she was never going to make them again. But they were so freaking GOOOOD.

(Personally, I just call 2010 “twenty ten”. I graduate from high school next year, XD.)

Wow, I can’t believe you’ve never had a whoopie pie! I come from Lancaster PA, home of the Amish and thus the whoopie pie and they are practically a daily staple here. We have all sorts – red velvet (my personal favorite), pumpkin, peanut butter, vanilla, mocha…all wonderful! I hope you find your first whoopie pie experience to be truly dleightful!

  9. Jessica says:

Let me just say that the best whoopies are from Maine. I moved to Maine about 15 years ago and never heard of them until then. It seems to be a New England thing. Upon my quest for those tasty pies. I found Big G’s http://big-g-s-deli.com. The peanut butter whoopie pies are to die for!

  10. anna says:

Haha, I had no idea Whoopie Pies were supposed to be regional until right before I moved OUT of Maine. I like pumpkin. I made some matcha whoopies once, they were pretty rad.

  11. Connie says:

Stay away from any whoopie pie recipe that has shortning in the filling!!
and totally make your own, because they are leaps and bounds above anything you can buy. Also being from Maine, I can assure you this, because I’ve tried almost every varity of buyable whoopie, and I’m always horribly disappointed.

putting peanut butter in the filling is a nice twist.

    u no… i think i mite b able 2 finally go green this year!! :P :)
