Coupling

Let’s have a poll: how many of you are having a wonderful, white, snowy holiday season? Alas, there is never snow in Seattle (sweet residence ‘o mine) during the holidays (or at any other time, of course) — just grumpy clouds. The one year we did have snow, a whoppin’ four or so inches shut down the whole city’s transit system and left me stranded in my house, where I spent the next week slowly going through my store of jasmine rice. All the same, what I wouldn’t give for a nice snowman in my yard! How about you?

Snow here in southern Ohio tends to stay on the ground for maybe a few hours at best. There are those rare times, though, when we get a big storm, and the power goes out for a day or two (which I love). Christmas here was green and cloudy. I would love to see a good snowman. :)

  2. Maarten says:

Well, here in the Netherlands we’ve had a lot of snow these last few weeks, for the first time in years. And here too public life nearly shuts down, traffic is stuck, trains are delayed if they ride at all, etc. But it’s very nice, I’ve seen some realy huge snowmen :)

  3. Calibretto says:

At the beginning of the holidays there was no snow in Berlin. But actually we have about ten centimeters (four inches). Its wonderful.

  4. January says:

Snowy here in central NY! It’s snows a LOT here during the winter. Snowstorms galore which can knock down power and be pretty spooky. One knocked down a whole school district! I read Epicute every day, an I think it’s great =D

  5. MinagiV says:

I live in Boston… and I hate snow. Yeah, I know, odd combination. It’s currently snowing, and I’m so glad I don’t have to leave my house. It’s nice to watch, and look at, but crappy to go out in. I think I don’t like it because I used to have to work on the waterfront, outside in the snow. >.<

  6. San Smith says:

Aw! We have no snow here, but I really wish we did… (I’m in Atlanta, GA.) My boyfriend is mountain biking today in a different area of Georgia, and he said it is snowing there! I’m super envious – I’d love a good snowy winter!
    However – I can’t imagine being stranded… Maybe I should be careful what I wish for? ;)

  7. :) says:

It’s snowy and cold here in Utah, but you can’t ususally make a snowman because the snow’s so dry it doesn’t pack at all. It’s supposed to snow 6-12 inches today.

  8. Stephle says:

Here in icy cold norway we have heaps upon heaps upon heaps of snow. You could probably make 50 snowmen in my backyeard alone. Sadly, I hate snow so Im hibernating in my apartment for the next 3-4 months.

  9. Chastity says:

Well, I come from Canada, where we all live in igloos and such. Heaps and heaps of snow over here too. We’d need about 16 inches of snow to shut down transportation.

  10. :) says:

I thought the igloo thing was just a stereotype

  11. Mari says:

We have had nothing but snow off and on since October 10th. At first it’s fun, and it’s so pretty, but by Christmas, after shoveling enough to sprain a muscle in my arm, I was over it. We could also make a lot of snowmen with the snow in our front and back yards. I like snow, but not this much of it.

  12. Anna says:

Snow? Um is that the white stuff that falls from the sky?
It snows once every 7 years or so… and by “snow” I mean 1/4 inch or so that we all get really excited about. It drops below freezing in this part of Cali but usually not when there’s also water in the sky.

  13. Miss M says:

I hear ya sistah! I’m in Canada, but on the West Coast just like you. In fact, I’m closer to where you are than anywhere WITH snow. (I’m on Vancouver Island – there’s a ferry that drops us downtown Seattle…)

    It’s all rain and blustery.

Chastity must be on the OTHER side of the Rockies – or very northern BC.

  14. Miss M says:

They are :P She’s being sarcastic :) We like to emulate what people think of Canada rather than what Canada actually is.

We eat whale blubber too eh, doncha know?

  15. kelly says:

Plenty of snow here in Chicago. Snowmen, snowball fights, snowplows burying parked cars, a fine white glaze of salt all over everything when the snow melts….yes, we have it all.

  16. Helene says:

    Yes, I has snow… (http://icanhascheezburger.com/2007/01/31/i-has-snow/)

I’m in Montreal, Canada. And it’s snowing right now.

  17. Music-chan says:

I live in Niagara Falls, Ontario. Not as snowy as people seem to assume Canada is, but we generally get a few good snowfalls a year. And while we’re not getting as much snow as SOME parts of Ontario right now, we have a nice covering on the ground =D

  18. Melanthios says:

No. Way. I spent one winter in the south, in the snow, and it was scary and horrible and even in four layers of clothing I wasn’t warm and we had to take up a dangerous living situation just because we were evicted and if we’d lived in the car we would have frozen. I hate the snow. I’m glad to be back in Southern California, where it never gets colder than 40F. Cold weather is expensive and scary and dangerous.

  19. k says:

Ithaca, NY here, about 6 inches on the ground and just the right kind for snowmen/snowwomen – if it weren’t 5 degrees and 30 mile an hour winds, brrrrrrr.

    I’m on the couch with 2 cats, a sweater and a hot laptop….. : )

  20. Anna says:

Boston, MA here, and we just keep on getting snow, but not the type for snowmen, sadly. The type for sledding and trudging through. It’s also very very cold and windy, so not very nice winter weather. Hopefully it will calm down soon!

  21. Stephle says:

Can you belive, no amont of snow is enough to shut down anything in this country! A couple of years ago we had over 2 meters of snow in our least snowy town. I need to move:(

  22. Kris says:

Estonia is covered in thick beautiful snow :D I went skiing today and the forest looked like a fairytale.

  23. Maria says:

Oh we have lot’s of snow at the moment here, in Finland. For once. Last Yuletide we had none, so it didn’t have any feel to it. But this year there’s been quite much of it. Snow. o 3o
Plus it’s -10 to -26 celcius degrees almost every day. So cold >_>

  24. Mad_Hatteress says:

No snow in Australia at Christmas! It’s 30 deg cel at least (um, about 85-90F from memory).

  25. Hello from Sweden is all I say ^_~ We have LOADS of snow over here right now!

  26. Chastity says:

yup, and when we go on vacation we migrate with the canadian geese :D

  27. Chastity says:

I live in eastern ontario. In Ottawa. :D

  28. Natalie L says:

I live in Sweden and a bit north of Stockholm. We have strange snow. It Snows and then freezes to icy snow and that gives everybody about two hours of snowball or snowman building chances :P And all of this happens at around four in the morning. Oh yeay..

  29. Jenn says:

Flint, MI here, all of our snow melted just after Christmas, but it keeps coming back and driving us crazy! It’s quite a bit like Chicago, but with fewer buried cars! I don’t have any snowmen around me because no one wants to brave the “subzero” temps to make one for me =(

  30. Kaori says:

Zurich, Switzerland here. No, we don’t have snow, even if that’s the general opinion about Switzerland. ;) Unfortunately it was very warm throughout december… but I still have hopes for snow in january! I can go snowboarding, though, there’s snow up the mountains, but not down here…

  31. Lydia says:

I’m in New Zealand….it’s summer here! No cute snowmen or throwing snow balls, just BBQs, surf and sand!

  32. abbie says:

here in san diego it is 80 degrees on christmas…so no snow.

  33. ChocolateCheesecake says:

We get wonderful snow here in Ohio… after Christmas. Christmas is usually grey and windy here.

  34. Mezi says:

I live in Colorado, so lots of snow. However, I was not there for it this year, as I was visiting family in Southern California. Not an ounce of snow there in my lifetime. And it was 85 degrees on Christmas! Madness!

  35. D. says:

Christchurch, New Zealand. 30 degrees Celsius and sunny as hell. Christmas barbecues FTW~

  36. chocolatekisses says:

the deepest snow weve had here in nc in the last 3 yrs is 1.5 in at best. it sux
