A recent comment on my bagel post from earlier this week got me thinking: what does the word “sandwich” mean to you? The comment said that a bagel with cream cheese and lox didn’t constitute a sandwich; to me it did, but maybe that’s because Russians primarily eat their sandwiches open faced and without toppings like lettuce and tomatoes. (Fun fact: the Russian word for sandwich is borrowed from the German word “butterbrot,” which literally means “butter bread.”)

What would you consider a sandwich? Does it need to have two pieces of bread, or will two English muffin halves suffice? Is the determining factor the type of bread, the amount of slices, or the condiments or toppings? Share in the comments!

Those of you who (like me!) adore eeeety-bitty edibles will appreciate this amazing group I just found on Flickr: it’s called A Re-Ment A Day and members post a photo of their Re-Ment miniatures once a day for all of 2010. Re-Ment makes tons of amazing cakes and other tiny delicacies — do any of you collect it?

Two can be as bad as one
It’s the loneliest number since the number one

Four is just about right, though.

No, no, no — not Treeson! Tree-son. Like “treason” but with “tree” in it? Get it? Ah, nevermind.

I’d like to start featuring more cute food vehicles on this blog, in addition to just cute food. A nice bowl, mug or plate can bring a lot of colour and fun to an otherwise ordinary meal. I mean, don’t you think you’d feel just a teeny bit more inclined to get out of bed and go to work in the morning if you ate your cereal out of a heart shaped bowl?

Here are some other amazing food containers I’ve been loving lately:

  • Though I’m not usually a Hello Kitty fan, I can’t deny how awesome this is
  • Yum! Yum yum yum!

A lot of cupcake posts recently, but I feel like posting these later in the month would just be kind of weird. I’m actually a bit excited for this Monday! I have so many amazing plans for the new year. Well, I have three. I’ve signed up for a yoga class, a photography challenge on flickr, and am going to force myself to cook things that have more complicated recipes than “add pasta to boiling water, drain, and serve with sauce”. How about you? Anything new or super cool you’re looking forward to?

Let’s have a poll: how many of you are having a wonderful, white, snowy holiday season? Alas, there is never snow in Seattle (sweet residence ‘o mine) during the holidays (or at any other time, of course) — just grumpy clouds. The one year we did have snow, a whoppin’ four or so inches shut down the whole city’s transit system and left me stranded in my house, where I spent the next week slowly going through my store of jasmine rice. All the same, what I wouldn’t give for a nice snowman in my yard! How about you?
